Which mattress fits a wall bed? Height, weight, recommendations

With a wall bed, the mattress isn't an afterthought but part of the mechanism: it folds up with the bed every night and must therefore match the height and weight specified by the manufacturer for each model. Here are all the official recommendations for the SMARTBett models.

What else to look out for

  • Slatted base: is permanently installed – you don't need your own and can't fit one either.
  • Clip straps: hold the mattress and bedding in place when the bed is folded up – the duvet and pillows stay inside.
  • Too heavy/too light: the gas-pressure/spring mechanism is designed for the recommended weight – a mattress that is significantly too light or too heavy makes opening and closing difficult.
  • Order a matching mattress at the same time: for every bed you'll find tested mattresses in the shop (e.g. gel hybrid pocket-spring mattresses in 100–180×200) whose height and weight match the recommendations.

Frequently asked questions

What mattress height fits a wall bed?

It depends on the model: SMARTBett M1 and M2 a maximum of 20 cm, M3 usually a maximum of 22 cm (individual sizes 20–24 cm – the exact figure is given on each product page).

How heavy can the mattress in a wall bed be?

The official recommendations: M1 15–55 kg depending on size (140: 15–30, 160: 20–50, 180: 25–55 kg), M2 15–35 kg, M3 20–55 kg. The weight matters so that the folding mechanism works in balance.

Can I use my existing mattress in the wall bed?

Yes, if its height and weight match the model recommendation and its size matches the sleeping area (e.g. 140x200 cm). Mattresses that are too high or too heavy prevent the bed from closing properly.

Does the wall bed have a built-in slatted base?

Yes, a permanently mounted slatted base is included – a separate slatted base is neither necessary nor intended.
